Wi-Fi 2.4GHz vs 5GHz - What is the difference?
Wi-Fi sends internet to your devices using radio waves. The type of radio wave used affects how far and how fast the internet reaches you. That’s why routers have 2.4GHz and 5GHz.
=================
How 2.4GHz Works?
=================
2.4GHz uses slower radio waves. It means :
Travel farther
Go through walls better
But carry less data
So in daily use it works even when you’re far from the router. The connection is stable but speed is limited. However, it can feel slow when many devices are connected
Wi-Fi 2.4 GHz is best for CCTV, smart devices, printers, rooms far away from router.
=================
How 5GHz Works?
=================
5GHz uses faster radio waves. So it means :
Can carry more data
Give higher speed but don’t go far
It also cannot pass through walls well.
So in daily use, Internet feels much faster, video calls are smoother, streaming loads instantly but signal drops if you move too far.
Wi-Fi 5 GHz best for phones, laptops, TVs, workstations, gaming.
Simple Way to Use Wi-Fi Properly :
Near router? → Use 5GHz
Far from router? → Use 2.4GHz
Or simply use a dual-band router and let it choose automatically.
Slow Wi-Fi is usually not a problem with the ISP — it’s about using the right Wi-Fi band.
