WHAT IS PHISHING
Phishing is a type of cyber-attack where criminals pretend to be a trusted person or organization (like your bank, a store, or a familiar company) to trick you into giving up sensitive information — for example, login credentials, credit-card numbers, or personal identity data.
MAIN FUNCTION / MAIN GOAL OF PHISHING
1. Trick you into believing a message or website is real
Scammers design fake emails, messages, or websites to look like they come from legitimate institutions.
2. Get you to reveal sensitive personal info or credentials
Once tricked, victims might enter passwords, bank info, personal IDs, or other private data that scammers then steal.
3. Infect your device with malware (sometimes)
Some phishing attempts ask you to download files or apps that secretly install malicious software.
4. Use social engineering tactics…play on fear, urgency or greed
Messages may warn of an account lockout, ask for urgent action, or offer a too-good-to-be-true reward to push you into acting without thinking.
5. Gain access to your accounts or financial assets
With stolen info, attackers can log in to your accounts, make unauthorized transactions, or commit identity theft.
